Overview

The Annual Benchmark Report (ABR) is a pediatric-specific data program available to all Children’s Hospital Association members to help hospitals compare to their peers. Be part of the only comparative data set amongst more than 150 pediatric hospitals and help further advocacy efforts. The ABR also plays an important role in educating communities on the value of children’s hospitals and how they differ from other providers.

How it works

The ABR is a benefit of membership and there are no additional fees to participate. Data submission begins in March/April. Member hospitals are encouraged to submit data annually to keep reporting and benchmarking up-to-date. After hospitals complete their first survey, 70% of subsequent surveys are auto-populated, so submission is quick and easy.

What it measures

The ABR provides in-depth and relevant benchmarking for member hospitals, with more than 400 data points for a comprehensive look at children’s hospitals. Data collected includes:

  • Characteristic data: What programs and services do your peers offer? How are their organizations structured?
  • Utilization: How do your admissions compare to similar-sized hospitals?
  • Finance: Are your operating expenses higher than your peer group?
  • Operations: How does your staffing model compare to your peers?

Use the data

You can access ABR metrics at any time for strategic planning, budgeting and benchmarking within your organization through online reporting. CHA also uses this data to advance public policy and advocacy efforts, like Medicaid. CHA wants you to make the most of this resource. Add the following citation to materials with ABR data:
