Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) Health Services Research serves as a collaborative learning hub at the intersection of providers, hospitals, payors, policymakers, patients, and communities. Researchers examine data, health care access, financing mechanisms, and health outcomes to generate knowledge that enhances health services for individuals and populations.
Health Services Research offers a range of services to support pediatric health services researchers, helping generate insights that deliver better health at smarter costs for children.
Pediatric-Specific Methods Development
Many health care methodologies, such as measures, scorecards, and algorithms, are designed for adult populations and require adaptation for pediatric use. Health Services Research develops and refines methods to address challenges unique to children’s hospitals and incorporates them into CHA databases.
Health Services Research Academy
The Health Services Research Academy is designed for fellows and junior faculty focused on pediatric research. The program includes 21 online, on-demand training modules covering the fundamentals of health services research, along with coaching and mentoring opportunities supported by CHA’s statistical experts.
CHA Research Network
The CHA Research Network is a collection of 13 specialized research groups, each focused on a specific clinical or operational area. By leveraging CHA’s databases and analytical capabilities, these groups conduct impactful pediatric research, advancing children’s health care by informing hospital priorities and supporting advocacy efforts.
Consulting and Statistical Support
Health Services Research provides consulting services to support the statistical needs of CHA hospitals using CHA databases, such as the Pediatric Health Information System® (PHIS®).
From study design and dataset creation to comprehensive statistical analyses, biostatisticians collaborate with hospitals throughout the research process in areas such as health services research, machine learning, and clinical trials. For children’s hospitals pursuing grants, CHA can provide data-driven insights to enhance research proposals.
Research Days
During Research Days, children’s hospitals learn to use PHIS for research. Our biostatisticians travel to the hospital and lead staff through a research analytics project.
