CHA Submits Statement for the Record for Energy and Commerce OPTN Hearing

CHA’s statement highlights the importance of examining the impact of “Securing the U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Act,” has had on pediatric health care.

Last week, the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations announced a hearing titled “A Year Removed: Oversight of Securing the U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Act Implementation,” scheduled for Wednesday, September 11. Children's Hospital Association (CHA) drafted a Statement for the Record and shared it with committee staff.

CHA’s statement highlights the importance of examining the impact of “Securing the U.S. Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Act,” has had on pediatric health care. Pediatric patients face challenges with organ procurement and transplantation that include scarcity of pediatric donors and unique size challenges. The Statement for the Record asks Congress to work with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to address the needs of pediatric patients and providers when implementing the OPTN Modernization Initiative.
