Children’s Hospital Association Supports the Health and Well-being of Transgender Youth
WASHINGTON, D.C — Children’s Hospital Association supports transgender children and youth and their families in accessing comprehensive, gender-affirming and developmentally appropriate health care. Research shows gender-affirming care improves the health and overall well-being of children and youth when families and medical professionals work together in making health care decisions. We condemn all violence and threats aimed at pediatric patients, their families and medical staff making decisions affecting children’s health.
Children need access to health care delivered by specialty trained clinicians in safe, supportive and inclusive environments. Children’s hospitals play a central role in advancing the health of all children including gender nonconforming and transgender youth.
As children’s hospitals, our mission is to save, protect and enhance the lives of the youth and their families in our care. We know high quality care leading to the best health outcomes requires families, caregivers and the patient care team to work together to make medical decisions.
